Las Vegas became the place to be not only for gambling casinos but also tech fanatics as it played host to the biggest consumer technology show in the world – the Consumer Electronics Show or CES. This year saw bigger screens, designs so sleek and so stunning and specs that are much more power-packed. Below are the 10 absolutely worthy gadgets from CES 2013.

Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift is an upcoming high field of view (FOV), low-latency, consumer-priced virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). It is being developed by Oculus LLC, who have raised $2.4 million from a Kickstarter campaign. Date invented last 2012 by Palmer Luckey and the cost is about $200-300.

Pebble Smartwatch

The Pebble E-Paper Watch is an upcoming smartwatch developed by Pebble Technology that was funded by raising money via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. After raising venture capital for the product under their former name inPulse, the company failed to attract traditional investors under their new brand name, so the company requested crowdfunding in April 2012. At the end of the funding, Pebble became the most highly funded Kickstarter project to date with $10,266,844 pledged by 68,928 people. In a press conference at CES 2013 on January 9, 2013, CEO Eric Migicovsky announced that the first Pebbles would ship on January 23, 2013 with 15,000 watches being produced and shipped every week. Samsung 85-Inch Ultra HD TV

How different is an Ultra HD TV from a HD one? From what we’ve come know from CES 2013, the former offers up to four times the resolution of the latter and the Samsung Ultra HD TV happens to be the largest ever made – a whopping 85-inch screen. And if that isn’t big enough for you, Samsung has plans to release a 100-inch version within this very year.

Nvidia Project Shield

Project Shield is a proposed handheld game console by Nvidia Corporation which was first announced at CES 2013 on 7 January 2013. The prototype devices shown by Nvidia in January 2013 are similar in form to an Xbox Controller but with both analog joysticks on the lower part of the controller. With the addition of a flip-up 5-inch (130 mm) touchscreen display.

Philips Fidelio Soundbar HTL9100 Speakers

The Philips Fidelio Soundbar HTL9100 is billed as the "world's first sound bar with detachable speakers," as the far ends of the sound bar can be removed and used as rear speakers. The detachable, battery-powered speakers operate wirelessly and Philips claims 10 hours of battery life. The speakers then recharge automatically when they're reattached.  Price: $800

Sony Xperia Z Waterproof Phone

The Xperia Z launched at CES 2013 as Sony’s new flagship Android smartphone, and it seems the Japanese manufacturer hopes to propel its new addition into the same territory as other high-end mobile phones from the likes of Samsung and HTC. It’s the best proposition we’ve ever seen from the manufacturer’s Xperia range, featuring a waterproof casing, 13-megapixel camera, and striking five-inch 1080p display, resulting in it being labelled the first full HD smartphone.

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

The new Lenovo ThinkPad Helix Tablet 2. This tablet runs on Windows 8 Pro and features a 10.1-inch multi-touch HD display. Lenovo claims this is the lightest Windows 8 tablet on the market with a starting weight of 1.25 pounds. A dock is available for this tablet that offers port replication. This Windows 8 Tablet by Vizio has yet to be named but we highly doubt anyone would really care what it will ultimately be called because everyone would probably be too enamored by its amazing aesthetics and, not forgetting, impressive specs: an 11.6-inch screen with an ultra slim 0.4-inch body, a powerful AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics processing unit and a 1080p HD resolution.

This takes battery power to do, and you can thus reduce the drain on your battery by going to Settings, Mail…, Fetch New Data, and changing the fetch setting to fetch more infrequently.

Change Auto-Lock to Happen Sooner

You are able to change the length of time that the phone spends idle before it sleeps and locks itself. The faster the phone sleeps, the less power is used for the screen and certain running processes. You can turn it down to 1-2 minutes to boost the battery life of an iPhone.

Turn Off the Equalizer

Once you play music comprehensive music programs, the iPhone comes with its own equalizer which allows you to change the sound accordingly. This will run in the background while your music plays and shorten the iPhone battery life. If you don’t need that extra bass or that enhanced treble, then go to Settings, iPod, EQ.

Turn Off Bluetooth

This is good for people who need to receive information in real-time, but not everyone needs it.
