No.1 Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Treyarch and published by Activision (Square Enix for Japan). After slipping to No. 2 in last year's midterm rankings, "Call of Duty" climbs back on top this year. The near-future setting of "Black Ops II" was sufficiently different from past games that even skeptical players returned. Helping matters was Activision's decision to turn the "Call of Duty: Elite" online service into a free offering, which has extended buyer interest in "Black Ops II". And analysts say the game is on track to be the best-selling entry in the 10-year-old franchise's history.
2. Bioshock Infinite
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games, and published by 2K Games. Previously known as "Project Icarus" in development, it was released worldwide on the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms on March 26, 2013. In mid-May, publisher Take-Two announced sales had topped 3.7 million copies. Reviews have been sufficiently strong to ensure the game will be on several "best of" lists this year, which could give it another sales spike in the holiday season.
3. NBA 2K13
NBA 2K13 is a basketball video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It was released on October 2, 2012 in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows and Wii. A version for the Wii U was also released as a launch title in North America, and in December for the PAL region. Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers and Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls are the cover athletes. NBA 2K13 is the successor to NBA 2K12 in the NBA 2K series.
4. Injustice: Gods Among Us
Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game based upon the fictional universe of DC Comics. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. It was released in April 2013 in North America, Europe, and Australia, and June 2013 in Japan. An iOS variation of the game was released on April 3, 2013. In just one month, it managed to leapfrog above games that have been out for much longer periods to become one of the year's top sellers to date.
5. Tomb Raider 2013
Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game. Published by Square Enix, Tomb Raider is the fifth title developed by Crystal Dynamics in the Tomb Raider franchise. As the first entry in a new Tomb Raider continuity, the game is a reboot that emphasises the reconstructed origins of the culturally influential lead character Lara Croft. Tomb Raider was released on 5 March 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Publisher Square Enix had unrealistic expectations, but with first month totals of 3.4 million copies, the game's sales were strong enough to make competitors envious.
6. Dead Space 3
Dead Space 3 is a third-person shooter survival horror video game developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. Announced at E3 2012 on June 4, 2012 and released internationally in February 2013, it is the sequel to Dead Space 2 and the third main entry in the Dead Space series.
7. Just Dance 4
Just Dance 4 is a music video game, developed by Ubisoft as the fourth main installment of the Just Dance series of dance games. Announced at E3 2012 by Flo Rida & Aisha Tyler, it was released on the Wii, the PlayStation 3 (for PlayStation Move), and the Xbox 360 (for Kinect) on October 9, 2012 in North America, and was released in Europe and Australia on October 2, 2012. The Wii U version was released on November 18, 2012 in North America and was released on November 30, 2012 in Europe and Australia, alongside the system. A sequel, Just Dance 2014, will be released on October 2013 for all consoles. Ubisoft reports the game's life-to-date sales have topped 8.5 million copies.
8. Gears of War: Judgment
Gears of War: Judgment is a third-person shooter that the American company Epic Games and Polish company People Can Fly developed as the fourth entry to the Gears of War series, a follow-up that Microsoft Studios published for the Xbox 360 in North America on 19 March 2013, with subsequent regions following later that month.
9. God of War: Ascension
God of War: Ascension is a third person action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). The game was first released on March 12, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console. It is the seventh installment in the God of War series and prequel to the entire series. God of War: Ascension was the fourth best-selling game of March 2013 in the US, and it received generally favorable reception from critics, who praised its fundamental gameplay and spectacle true to the series.
10. Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 is an open world first-person shooter video game developed mainly by Ubisoft Montreal in conjunction with Ubisoft Massive, Ubisoft Red Storm, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Reflections and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Since the game's release last year, Ubisoft says it has sold more than 6 million units.
